Thing # 17 - Wikis
The hardest thing is trying to figure out how to apply these technologies. The library has a good book on the use of wikis, rss and more for educators it's called: RSS for educators: blogs, newsfeeds, podcasts, and wikis in the classroom by John Hendron. I have really enjoyed the Commoncraft videos on youtube. These have been very helpful.
Thing #16 - Library 2.0 | Web 2.0
I read about Library 2.0 quite awhile ago but never took the time to really learn about it or Web 2.0. I think it is not hard for librarys and librarians to apply the concepts of Library 2.0 or Web 2.0 because they have always strived to to accomodate changes, to keep up with the latest technologies, and they always want to involve community.

Thing 15 - SlideShare
SlideShare is interesting, lots of presentations to look through. Most of the Powerpoint presentations I was interested in seemed to be not as interesting without a presenter narrating them. My SlideShare page: http://www.slideshare.net/beverlyjw1978 I don't have anything that I personally have created.

Thing 14 - Delicious
I have always struggled with the "links" page from our web site. How to evaluate them? Which ones to add? Our links list is so long. See: http://www.hastings.lib.ne.us/links.html Delicious might be a good way to organize them and I like the tagging concept. It might also make sense to link to another library's Delicious account who has reference staff that have knowledge in evaluating web sites? I also wonder about others being able to add links to your list. I need to explore this more. I would like to add a Delicious account to the library's site.

Thing 13 - Twitter
I tried out Twitter. My screen name is beverlyjw1978. I would not use Twitter to actually let people know what I am doing or my thoughts at the moment. But I could see a use if you had a group and wanted to contact everyone quickly. Your group ofcourse would have to be logged on to their twitter account. I am following 4 people from NLC and have 1 follower. I tried the direct message, a reply, and the tiny url. I got an "error on page" message when I was trying the direct reply. I think this application is interesting once you get beyond the thought that this is used to microblog to let people know "what you are doing".

Thing 12: LibraryThing
I have looked at LibraryThing before. We have a link to it on our web site. I was just trying to figure out what I would use it for??? As a list of my favorite books? A list of books I want to read? Or maybe a catalog of books I own. Anyway I did look around and added 5 titles. I then found a spot where you can add a library and events. I added our library and some of our library events to LibraryThings' events postings. I also need to add a picture of the HPL building. Here is my LibraryThing profile. http://www.librarything.com/profile/beverlyjw1978 Here is my bookshelf http://www.librarything.com/catalog/beverlyjw1978

Flicker Web applications & 3rd party tools - Thing 9
There is so much on these lists that it's overwhelming. Lots of fun applications. I used "Spell with Flicker" to spell my name. It will be fun to play with some more of these apps.
Thing 8 - Flicker
Flicker seems like an interesting technology that would be good for personal use. Maybe the library might use it to post photos from events??? I didn't really look for an interesting photo. I searched for "Husker" and came up with a lot of pictures. Surprised? http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=huskers
Finding Feeds
It would be helpful to use one of these search engines if I there was something that I wanted to find. I tried a few searches and I didn't really find much that I wanted to subscribe to. I will come back to this in the future.

RSS
I've always been interested in this technology. I'm glad that I had the opportunity through this training to learn about RSS and subscribing to blogs and news feeds.

Thing 5: Instant Messaging
I was a little confused by this one. I was able to follow the instructions and add contacts but after that I didn't know what to do. I think that I just expected my contact to start chatting with me and couldn't figure out how to initiate the chat. Then finally I saw the little box on the bottom and was chatting with 2 people simultaneously. Wow I feel like a teenager. My contact name for gmail googletalk is beverlyjww.

7 1/2 habits of successful lifelong learners
The hardest habit for me to achieve might be #4 to
The easiest habit is #6
"Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner."because I don't have a lot of confidence in myself.
The easiest habit is #6
"Use technology to your advantage."because I like to use and learn new technologies.
